Robbie William's clothing label Farrell has just released it's Autumn/Winter 2013/14 collection

The range is supported with a short promotional video set to the music of
Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier

with Robbie playing The Guv'nor in the style of Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels

Robbie set the label up in 2012, named after his grandfather Jack Farrell, and has had some classic tracks to advertise the collections from the start including
Symarip's Skinhead Moonstomp, My Friend Stan by Slade and Chas & Dave's Margate
Using one of Adam's song's comes as no great surprise as Robbie declared his love of the music by recording a version of "Antmusic" for the b-side to his No Regrets single back in 1998.

I just wanted to say a few words about Georgie Girl and her recent decision to accept a place at one of London's most prestigious acting schools.
Georgie has always been a fabulous entertainer, highly professional and has delivered the goods on stage on over 100 concerts with me and the 'Posse'.

She comes from a distinguished acting family and I have known for a while that she would eventually extend her experience as a performer into acting which she has done before her work with me and her band
'Georgie Girl and her Poussez Posse'.

I send her all the best wishes for what I know will be a highly successful future which she truly deserves.

After much deliberation I have selected New Killer Shoes to support me on my forthcoming live dates.
They have impressed me greatly with their young fresh sound, their enthusiasm and energy. I know they will go down very well with my fans.
Do not feel discouraged if you were not selected this time round as I now have a lot of choice for future shows having seen the amount of talent out there.
You never know you may still get the call one day. I would encourage you to all stick at it and I send you my very best of luck for the future.

US Tour update

IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT, After playing a sold out show at 4th and B as part of his first US tour in 17 years, legendary pop icon and Grammy nominee Adam Ant visited the
San Diego Air & Space Museum
to see the spacecraft Gumdrop, from the 1969 Apollo 9 space mission that inspired Adam's 1984 hit song "Apollo 9" from his "Vive Le Rock" album.
The goal of the mission was to test the Apollo spacecraft and space suits in preparation for the ultimate goal of landing on the moon.

Adam visited the museum, chatted with fans and posed for photos during his first day off from the US leg of "The Blueblack Hussar" tour.
With his band, The Good, The Mad and the Lovely Posse, Adam is a playing a 22-city tour in support of his upcoming album "Adam Ant is The Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter".

Speaking last year with aa.net Adam spoke about the Apollo missions:

"you can fit their capsules on that table, it's literally like getting in a tin can and I just think that they're incredible these guys.
The Magnificent Desolation book that Buzz Aldrin wrote is still the best book that I've read in many a year.
The first chapter where he describes going to the moon is unbelievable. It's great, it's a fantastic book, every page was like a holiday for me I loved it."

The tour continues in Austin, TX on the 19th, tickets and information available from here.

Malcolm McLaren

10th April 2010

Malcolm McClaren died at the age of 64 on Thursday in Switzerland after battling with a recently diagnosed malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer.

Malcolm famously came to the public's attention in the early 1970's after starting the clothes shop Let it Rock on the Kings Road in London with Vivienne Westwood.
Soon afterwards Malcolm was approached by a new young band called The Strand (later to become known as Sex Pistols), who asked for some guidance and advice.
In 1974 the shop was renamed SEX and Malcolm had a short stint at managing/advising the New York Dolls on their home turf where they ceremoniously split a few months later.

Adam Ant first met Malcolm whilst trying to supplement his time at art college by selling jewellery in the shop. Several years later Malcolm was employed as an advisor for Adam and as a result commandeered the band leaving Adam "Antless".
Malcolm continued with Bowwowwow whilst Adam's route produced Kings of the Wild Frontier.

Malcolm then ventured into music himself and released the albums Duck Rock, Fans, Waltz Darling and Paris.
He also worked on several film projects, TV shows and Radio programmes. He considered running for the post of Mayor of London in 2000 and in late 2009 produced Shallow; a collection of musical paintings.

Uncut Magazine

31st March 2010

Just hitting the streets today is the new issue of UK based music magazine Uncut, which features a 3 page article on the making of the Kings of the Wild Frontier single in 1980.

Journalist Nick Hasted contacted Adam-ant.net back in November 2009 trying to track down all the members of the band from that time to interview them about the making of this first single from the newly put together Ant/Marco version of Adam and the Ants.
Within two weeks the feature was ready.

Although the Kings single was the definitive Ants sound that summer, it only peaked at number 48 in the UK chart.
It wasn't until after the release and success of Dog Eat Dog in October that the re-issue of the Kings single made it to number 2.

Adam: I was elated. It didn't sound like any record I'd ever heard. We had our own sound. We all felt like Kings.

The quote of the feature:
Pirroni: I'm still untouched by the ordinary world, thanks to "Kings of the Wild Frontier".

Uncut is out now.

Ant update

28th March 2010

It's been a busy time for Adam recently, starting around three weeks ago on the 7th March with an auction that was held in aid of the St John's Wood Hospice. Adam helped raise over £1200 for the charity by selling a few items from his personal collection of jewellery.
The following Thursday night Adam was spotted outside The Ivy on West Street, central London, where he was photographed sporting his new "Armed" suit jacket by Social Suicide which is part of their new Dictators of Fashion range.

After visiting the Art Bin installation that Sunday night Adam made his first live performance since the Bloomsbury Theatre in 2007 at Through the Looking Glass bookshop as detailed in the last news item.
This was followed the night after where he took to the stage with Zodiac Mindwarp & the Love Reaction at The Pipeline to sing with them for a rendition of Prime Mover, the band's 1987 hit single.

Saturday night and Adam was playing again, this time at Southwark Playhouse to join in on one of the regular Shore Leave events.
Adam played versions of Physical, Young Parisians, Cartrouble, Cleopatra plus covers of Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue and Peanuts Wilson's Cast Iron Arm for his half hour set.
Pictured below is Adam preparing for the show with photographer and party organiser Daniel Lismore.

Adam had announced the show a few days earlier and as a result fans travelled from as far as continental Europe and north America.

The night after there was another surprise appearance at the Monarch in Camden where Adam joined heavy metal and rock covers band Metalworks on stage to give a repeat of Zodiac Mindwarp's Prime Mover and then finished off the night with a cover of Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild.

After a night off Adam was photographed outside The Groucho Club on Dean Street with Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding, the press reported on Wednesday that Adam was indeed back in the studio again after an absence of 16 years.

Impromptu show

19th March 2010

Adam played a very low key live performance last night at Through the Looking Glass bookshop in London.
He ran through Ants Invasion, Cartrouble, Physical and a cover of Iggy Pop's The Passenger.
The photo below was taken by Eddie Monsoon

Plans are afoot for the possible show, detailed yesterday, to be at Southwark Playhouse on Tooley Street, SE1

Possible show?

18th March 2010

Adam is in the process of organising a very low key live performance, where he hopes to play a few songs this coming Saturday at a club in London.

Details to follow.

Art Bin

17th March 2010

Sunday 14th March was the final day of London based artist Michael Landy's latest installation Art Bin which had been running at the South London Gallery on Peckham Road for 6 weeks.

The above photo featured in the Evening Standard, donated by Ant fan Lucifer, shows Adam working on the last item of art, a collage, to be "disposed" of to close the piece.

Michael Landy's installation started 29th January 2010

All of the art in the 600m cubed perspex skip is destined for landfill and includes work by Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin and Gillian Wearing, all card carrying members of the crassly named YBA's.
Landy famously destroyed all of his belongings in 2001 in a piece entitled Break Down where he crushed, shredded and dismantled everything that he owned on public display in an old branch of the retail outlet C&A in Oxford Street.

Adam receives Q Magazine Icon Award 2008

    6th October 2008

The 19th Q Magazine Awards were held at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London today, October 6th 2008, where Adam Ant was presented with this prestigious recognition.
Previous recipients have included Jimmy Page, Jeff Lynne and U2.

‘Adam was thrilled and surprised to be given the Q magazine Icon Award today at a ceremony in London. Receiving the statue from the Sugababes, he said how flattering it was to get an award that last year had gone to Paul McCartney, and that it was an honour to be chosen for the work that he’d done in the past—and that he was looking forward to next year with anticipation, and not only because it would be the 30th anniversary of his first album release.’

Q Magazine has been holding the awards ceremonies in London since 1990, where they have now become one of the major music events around.

This year’s event, with around 450 invited guests, was hosted by comedian Alan Carr. The Q Magazine website states that the event is “A unique and intimate celebration with arguably the world’s highest concentration of musical talent and fame.”

    Adam Ant Art WITHDRAWN

    20th May 2008

We’re sorry for the disappointment felt by the few of you who have expressed an interest in obtaining copies of Adam Ant Art, but sadly there are just not enough of you to make it possible.

Producing a book of the scope and size of Adam Ant Art is expensive, and has become more so since the ‘credit crunch’ has ramped up the price of paper, shipping and distribution in recent weeks. Before any book is undertaken there are costings to be made which are dependent upon the size of the print run and sale cost of the book. It has to make financial sense before such a big and expensive project as AAA is begun. Unfortunately the number of people registering an interest in the book has not come close to matching the minimum print numbers.

The only way that it might be possible to create the book would be to charge a very large price for it from buyers, which is not something that Adam wants to do. Please note that the book was to be produced by Adam himself and was not being prepared with any publisher. The publishers of Adam’s autobiography, Macmillan, have no interest in publishing AAA, neither does any other major publishing house, because they do not believe that it will sell enough copies to make it financially viable for them.

As we have always said, ‘in order to proceed we need to confirm a certain level of interest’ and that simply hasn’t been reached. The idea may be raised again in the future if and when things change. Once again, apologies for your disappointment.

    Adam Ant Art

    Adam Ant Art

Adam is considering putting together a new deluxe, illustrated book, provisionally titled Adam Ant Art.

It will be a very personal book from Adam that celebrates his artistic influences and inspirations, both musical and visual, and will include words and pictures on his musical and artistic heroes. The book will feature some of Adam’s unpublished original artworks, storyboards for videos, sketches, collages and original hand-written lyrics and lyrical ideas.

    Adam on this morning

    26th September 2007

    This Morning with Phillip Schofield

To follow on from last Monday's very successful show at the Bloomsbury theatre, Adam will be a guest on the UK popular morning entertainment show, "THIS MORNING", hosted by Phillip Schofield of Going Live fame. The program will be live on ITV, Friday 28th September 2007 beginning at 10:30am.

There will also be some radio interviews to confirmed next week, details of times and stations will be announced here as soon as they become available.

    Bloomsbury show review

    26th September 2007

Adam's first headlining appearance in the UK for almost 12 years and it was as if time had stood still. Confident, witty and engaging as he entertained fans for two hours non stop, with the same energy and charisma he had 30 years ago. A smartly dressed Adam in all black, topped with a back Trilby hat, walked on stage to a standing ovation, accompanied by his life long friend and classical guitarist, Dave Pash, immediately had the theatre in fits of laughter by saying, “Thank you very much, Good night!”. He began by reading and reminiscing, from what is his favourite part of his autobiography, the early days of his life. It was a very relaxed humorous talk, often accompanied with laughter and light banter between Dave and other school friends in the audience, if you think a book reading could be a boring thing to do, you'd be wrong, it was just as exciting and entertaining as any part of the show. Between readings, Adam would perform acoustic versions of some of his work and cover versions:

    Young Parisians
Never trust a man (with egg on his face)
Catch a falling star (Perry Como cover)
Softly as I leave you (Matt Monro cover)
    Dog eat Dog
    Stand and Deliver
    Desperate but not serious
    Vive le Rock

Adam continued reading and performing, interacting and joking with the audience with no signs that he'd been away from the stage for 12 months, let alone 12 years. For an encore Adam and Dave walked back on to perform “Goody two shoes”, thanking everybody for coming and recognising that fans had travelled as far as the USA and Australia to see him. Just as he had walked on, he walked off to another standing ovation, whistles, cheers and chants of “We want more”, which continued on for what seemed an eternity. Once more, a thrilled Adam returned to the stage to take a bow, followed once more by Dave Pash to perform another encore, repeating “Never trust a man (with egg on his face). It was obvious Adam was extremely comfortable on stage and just as happy to be there as anybody in the crowd, leaving everyone in audience with the promise of more from Adam Ant.

    Stand and Deliver - Epilogue

    22nd August 2007

    paperback cover

The release of the paperback version of Adam's autobiography is just around the corner, so here are a few quotes from the epilogue chapter, where Adam speaks of writing the book, filming the documentary and how great the fans made him feel.

"It was my first tour for ten years and I was really nervous. The hardback edition of this book had just been published and this was my first signing. I kept thinking, what if no one turns up? All morning I had this picture in my head of me sitting in the shop with a big pile of books and no one to buy them."

"And then I saw them, a queue of people snaking along the street and around the corner...there was no doubt these were Adam Ant fans. For the first time that day, I felt myself smiling"

"As I walked from the lift to the desk were I was to sit, the front of the queue started clapping, it gave me the most fantastic buzz and feeling of warmth"

Adam goes on to talk about talking to the fans, meeting Terry Lee, and looking forward to recording new material (and a new boxset!). It was definitely an uplifting chapter and gives hope of things to come.

"Music is part of me as much now as it has ever been......." Adam Ant 2007

    Adam Ant-Persuasion related book

    30th July 2007

A new book called "The Greatest Music Never Sold", written by Dan Leroy - will be released in the US, mid-August, published by Backbeat/Hal Leonard. There is a chapter about Persuasion, which includes new info from Marco and some interesting stuff as well from Leigh Gorman. There's a pretty ironic twist involving none other than Malcolm McLaren!

Other artists covered in the book include Bowie, Mick Jagger, Seal, Ray Davies, Chicago, Juliana Hatfield, the Beastie Boys, Beck, Kraftwerk and several more.

    update:9th August 2007
Following on from the news reported above of the new book entitled "The Greatest Music Never Sold", here is a glimpse at a revealing, 24 page chapter in the book, called, "Adam Ant - The Power of Persuasion"....

While the chapter covers small areas of Adam's career, it's obvious focus is on the unreleased album 'Persuasion', why it didn't get released, what made the album so different to anything Adam and Marco had done before. How Leigh Gorman was involved and how Malcolm McLaren, once again, repeats history and splits Adam and Leigh for a second time. Leigh tells how he missed the chance go on the 'Persuasion' tour and later help produce 'Wonderful'

Reading on, the book confirms that "Seems to me" was planned to be included on the album, only to be dropped at the 11th hour in favour of "Charge of the heavy brigade"

Marco tells of his struggles with MCA and in an ironic twist, finding himself having to turn down the chance of the record company licencing the "whole" album. Repeatedly returning to them in an attempt to strike a deal and even now, "Remains optimistic he may yet persuade the label to relinquish it's grip on 'Persuasion'"

Well worth the read if only for this Chapter. Remember the book also includes artists such as Bowie, Jagger, Seal and more.......

The book is available at Amazon.com and will be in the usual BandN/Borders-type stores....

also available to order from Amazon.co.uk

As you are aware, Strange Fruit will be soon releasing The Adam And The Ants' Complete Radio One Recordings on June 25. According to Strange Fruit,

"For the most part, this album shows Adam And The Ants pre-'Stand And Deliver', the single that would catapult them into mainstream culture and onto the bedroom walls of teenage girls everywhere. Before that, they delivered some of the most approachable, if underrated, good-time punk rock of the era. The Complete Radio One Recordings includes the three sessions the band recorded in 1978 and 1979 for John Peel, and one recorded for the Simon Mayo show in 1995 which features an acoustic version of 'Ant Music' that's not to be missed.

Liner notes for the album are to be written by Petey X: Ant fan of old and bass player from San Diego's finest rock 'n' roll export, Rocket From The Crypt."

The full tracklisting is as follows:
