Bloomsbury show review
26th September 2007
Adam's first headlining appearance in the UK for almost 12 years and it was as if time had stood still.
Confident, witty and engaging as he entertained fans for two hours non stop, with the same energy and charisma he had
30 years ago. A smartly dressed Adam in all black, topped with a back Trilby hat, walked on stage to a standing ovation,
accompanied by his life long friend and classical guitarist, Dave Pash, immediately had the theatre in fits of laughter by
saying, “Thank you very much, Good night!”. He began by reading and reminiscing, from what is his favourite part of his
autobiography, the early days of his life. It was a very relaxed humorous talk, often accompanied with laughter and light
banter between Dave and other school friends in the audience, if you think a book reading could be a boring thing to do,
you'd be wrong, it was just as exciting and entertaining as any part of the show. Between readings, Adam would perform
acoustic versions of some of his work and cover versions:
Young Parisians
Never trust a man (with egg on his face)
Cleopatra
Catch a falling star (Perry Como cover)
Cartrouble
Softly as I leave you (Matt Monro cover)
Antmusic
Dog eat Dog
Stand and Deliver
Desperate but not serious
Vive le Rock
Wonderful
Adam continued reading and performing, interacting and joking with the audience with no signs that he'd been away from
the stage for 12 months, let alone 12 years. For an encore Adam and Dave walked back on to perform “Goody two shoes”,
thanking everybody for coming and recognising that fans had travelled as far as the USA and Australia to see him.
Just as he had walked on, he walked off to another standing ovation, whistles, cheers and chants of “We want more”,
which continued on for what seemed an eternity. Once more, a thrilled Adam returned to the stage to take a bow, followed
once more by Dave Pash to perform another encore, repeating “Never trust a man (with egg on his face).
It was obvious Adam was extremely comfortable on stage and just as happy to be there as anybody in the crowd, leaving
everyone in audience with the promise of more from Adam Ant.
Hot off the heels of the gig, read a great interview with Dave Pash, composed by Chris (Carty) Morgan.

Stand and Deliver - Epilogue
22nd August 2007
The release of the paperback version of Adam's autobiography is just around the corner, so here are a few quotes from the epilogue chapter, where Adam speaks of writing the book, filming the documentary and how great the fans made him feel.
"It was my first tour for ten years and I was really nervous. The hardback edition of this book had just been published and this was my first signing. I kept thinking, what if no one turns up? All morning I had this picture in my head of me sitting in the shop with a big pile of books and no one to buy them."
"And then I saw them, a queue of people snaking along the street and around the corner...there was no doubt these were Adam Ant fans. For the first time that day, I felt myself smiling"
"As I walked from the lift to the desk were I was to sit, the front of the queue started clapping, it gave me the most fantastic buzz and feeling of warmth"
Adam goes on to talk about talking to the fans, meeting Terry Lee, and looking forward to recording new material (and a new boxset!). It was definitely an uplifting chapter and gives hope of things to come.
"Music is part of me as much now as it has ever been......." Adam Ant 2007
A new book called "The Greatest Music Never Sold", written by Dan Leroy - will be released in the US, mid-August, published by Backbeat/Hal Leonard.
There is a chapter about Persuasion, which includes new info from Marco and some interesting stuff as well from Leigh Gorman. There's a pretty ironic twist involving none other than Malcolm McLaren!
Other artists covered in the book include Bowie, Mick Jagger, Seal, Ray Davies, Chicago, Juliana Hatfield, the Beastie Boys, Beck, Kraftwerk and several more.
update:9th August 2007
Following on from the news reported above of the new book entitled "The Greatest Music Never Sold", here is a glimpse at a revealing, 24 page chapter in the book, called, "Adam Ant - The Power of Persuasion"....
While the chapter covers small areas of Adam's career, it's obvious focus is on the unreleased album 'Persuasion', why it didn't get released, what made the album so different to anything Adam and Marco had done before. How Leigh Gorman was involved and how Malcolm McLaren, once again, repeats history and splits Adam and Leigh for a second time. Leigh tells how he missed the chance go on the 'Persuasion' tour and later help produce 'Wonderful'
Reading on, the book confirms that "Seems to me" was planned to be included on the album, only to be dropped at the 11th hour in favour of "Charge of the heavy brigade"
Marco tells of his struggles with MCA and in an ironic twist, finding himself having to turn down the chance of the record company licencing the "whole" album. Repeatedly returning to them in an attempt to strike a deal and even now, "Remains optimistic he may yet persuade the label to relinquish it's grip on 'Persuasion'"
Well worth the read if only for this Chapter. Remember the book also includes artists such as Bowie, Jagger, Seal and more.......
The book is available at Amazon.com and will be in the usual BandN/Borders-type stores....

adam-ant.net and Solid State Authentics present the first official Ants merchandise for over a decade: 'The Vintage Collection' - authentic designs remastered for the 21st century. Launching with four prints available in vintage white or charcoal 'ringer' garments with exclusive Adam + The Ants woven sleeve labelling. Each design has been personally approved by Adam and is, of course, the only official merchandise available.
In addition to the Limited Edition Vintage Collection, we will be launching a range of classic 'pop' era Antswear later in the year . . .
Some visitors to this site may have been surprised to find a trial run of our '1977' Ants print [created in conjunction with the renowned 'Amplified' label] in Harvey Nicholls and even Harrods over the summer last year - well, we're currently negotiating extending their range of Ants designs and will keep you informed of all upcoming releases.
The first disc of this two disc release may not live up to the appeal of the doomed DIGITAL TENDERNESS,
but at long last, the first official ANTDVD is here. The mini fairytale movies that we remember from
the early 80's finally in glorious digital quality to watch again and again. All the promo videos from Kings of
the wild frontier through to Gotta be a sin with some alternative and remixed versions added. Although the early videos
that were due to appear on DVD are now gone, there is the Stephanie Gluck directed "Xerox" video to feast over, which is
worth going to buy it for that reason alone.
Disc two is an up close and personal documentary of Adam Ant as shown on London ITV. Adam speaks of how it all began, joined
by friends and associates such as Marco Pirroni, Mike Smith (Decca records), Mike Mansfield (video director) and other guests.
See Adam's hand drawn sketches as he worked out how he wanted the videos and look to be achieved down to the finest details. Follow
Adam on a guided tour of his old luxury home "LUXE" and see how he had it decorated ,still virtually untouched today
as it was back in the early 80's. The documentary follows through up to the recent and very successful book signing tour at Waterstones
in Piccadilly, London.
Released: 11th December 2006, Sony BMG, region 0, PAL, 2 disc.
